Import sighting: Cadbury's MagiMilk
Posted: 15:29 Tue 05-08-2003. Price: 40c (Euros). Location: "Sundry Newcastle and Gateshead market stalls and in dodgy cheap shops across the North-East". Nutritional unusualness: See below.
"Steve Cross"
reports: I bought a Cadbury's MagiMilk today from the type of shop where everything
has fallen off the back of a lorry (presumably in Ireland in this case). It
promises lots of health benefits, with 50% of the RDA of calcium in every
bar.
On first inspection, it's like an over-sized Taxi bar. With crispy rice. And
pretty unpleasant. The "chocolate milk goodness centre" looks like salmon
paste, and has no taste to speak of.
...A quick websearch confirms that the product seems to originate from Ireland, and may have landed in the North-East as part of its annual summer migration to the fjords of Norway. Anyway, this week's The Grocer also contains rumours of a new Kit Kat product "planned for the autumn", while we're also getting unconfirmed sightings that Cadbury have chosen to launch their apparently pointless Dairy Milk rebranding (DM Crispies, DM Mint Chips, DM Bubbly, etc) in one of the hottest months in recent memory.

Comment: I can confirm the Dairy Milk rebranding thing.. I have seen the crispies and bubbles varieties. Haven't bought them tho, as I'm on a diet. And let's face it.. they're just Wispas, aren't they?

Comment: I can confirm that Dairy Milk Bubbly exists (cos I've just finished one). It's like a small Dairy Milk bar, but with bubbly chocolate not unlike that in a Wispa. It's not the same size or shape as Wispa though (it's in chunks, not a whole bar). The box says "replaces Wispa" on it, but there's no mention of it on the bar itself.

Comment: A lot of the fancier grocery stores (eg Whistlestop in stations) have Hersheys (and Oreos, and Chips Ahoy?) here in London, though that's potentially not much use to you if you live in Aberdeen...

Comment: Oh and "bob" reckons that "hershey kissies" are now available from "most [UK] asda/wal*mart stores", though we have yet to receive any independent verification:
