Confirmed sighting: Soyactiv Soya Smoothie
Posted: 14:47 Mon 26-01-2004. Price: £1.29. Location: Sainsbury's, London NW3. Sub-flavours: Orange and Mango, Strawberry and Rhubarb, Banana. Nutritional unusualness: Soya isoflavones, live cultures, 14.5g carbohydrate per 100g (45% more than most fruit juice), perhaps due to ingredients which include water, sucrose, glucose syrup, orange juice (18%), and not forgetting good old "glucose syrup" - intriguingly making its second appearance on the list.

reports: This seems a lot like a soya-based shake I was handed on Oxford Street sometime during autumn 2002, though there's no mention of any previous incarnation on the Mangajo official site (requires Flash - for no readily apparent reason, sorry). And it hasn't really caused me to rethink my opinions on synthetic milk substitutes either - if you're lactose intolerant but would still like to try a dairy-like substance that tastes like it's been lactated by a robot (in a nicely designed bottle covered with exotic health claims), this could be the drink for you!
...In other "live culture" updates: is anyone else curiously fascinated by the budding romance in the current Yakult TV ad campaign - like a probiotic "Gold Blend" couple for the 21st century? I think it could go one of two ways: either the bowl-headed dweeb defeats an alien invasion using his "good" bacteria ("slain by the humblest creatures that God, in his wisdom, has put upon this earth: bacteria. Minute, invisible, bacteria. For, directly the invaders arrived and drank and fed, our microscopic allies attacked them..." - HG Wells' War Of The Worlds). Or maybe he'll quote the "Sleepman" villain from the first episodes of Pat Mills and Kevin O'Neill's
Marshal Law, who killed his victims while explaining, "I am filth. I am bacteria. I am the lowest form of life"? Here's hoping!

Comment: Spotted today, Freddo Dairy Milk With Caramel.
I would submit it, but utlimately, its just a rebranding of a Taz bar. Amusingly, the packaging says 'Dairy Milk Milk Chocolate With A Caramel Centre'
I would buy again, as it is just a caramel but for 10p.
Should I submit a picture?

Comment: cheers yeah if it's not too much trouble, Alex - I know you used to be able to get Freddo in the UK, but recent evidence suggested it had emigrated to Australia...

Comment: No huge urgency on it just yet Alex - I'm still a bit confused whether it's a new UK product or not?

Comment: Well, my school canteen has regularly sold plain chocolate Freddos and Taz bars.
I'm certain that a Freddo Dairy Milk With Caramel is a rebranding of the Taz bar.
However, I'll still submit it.
