Confirmed sighting: Hubba Bubba Mix and Match
Posted: 11:59 Sun 25-04-2004. Price: 59p. Location: Woolworths, Luton. Sub-flavours: Sour cherry and lemon, Sour strawberry and vanilla ice cream. Nutritional unusualness: Humectant (non-animal) glycerine .
Triple whammy! "Saramond" was first with the sighting (and a slightly out-of-focus pic), reporting: These are quite good; the sour cherry is nicer than the lemon, but both are very chewable. The pack contains 200 tiny bubble gum balls (it says on the pack, I didn't count them!) but 59p is quite steep for what they are.
..."Alex" went into more detail about the flavours, but agreed on the price: The box is like the Nerds' box and the shape and texture of the balls are like Millions. The "Sour Strawberry" balls taste just like Strawberry Hubba Bubba, which is obvious. The Vanilla Ice Cream ones are strong flavoured, and a bit sickly if you only have these. They taste a little bit Vanilla-y, and, as far as I can remember, like Vanilla Monster Munch. Put them together, and they become tricky little blighters to describe. If you have even amounts of both balls, the Strawberry overpowers the Vanilla. I guess you'll have to try them to find out. Unfortunately, the flavour runs out quickly, and the price is a bit steep. But, in the end, "charl" provided both the best photo *and* the most incisive packaging analysis: These are little crunchy balls of gum served up in Nerd style packages. They are all notably unsour (and Toxic Waste Candy made me cry, so I'm sensitive to these things). The vanilla tastes more like parma violets and the wincing cartoon fruit on the packages are inconsistent. The lemon is wincing when the cherries are sour and the strawberries are wincing at themselves.

Comment: I'm enjoying a pack of Strawberry and Vanilla to get rid of crisp crumbs around my mouth as we speak.
(The crisps were Walkers Sensation creamy chicken pasanda & coriander poppadoms - very nice)

Comment: In the September issue of "Kids, National Geographic" we saw an ad for Bubble Tape. We think it's not a very good message because the hubba bubba's are trying to kick a green hubba bubba character. This is not good for kids to see because it's teaching kids to be mean instead of being kind and generous. The caption says, "Six Feet of Gum., Six Feet of Fun" There are six feet on the bubba's that are trying to have "Fun" by kicking another hubba character. We're so disappointed and angry .
