Confirmed sighting: Britvic J2O Apple and Raspberry
Posted: 22:38 Tue 07-Jun-2005. Price: £3.15/ 4x275ml. Location: Asda, Longwell Green. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Stuart Campbell" reports: A new "limited edition" flavour for this well-established brand, with which Britvic have managed to pull off the quite-impressive trick of getting people in bars to fork out £2.50 for a bottle of diluted fruit juice that's so smooth, drinkable and most of all small that it's gone in three minutes flat and you have to go and get another one while you wait for your friends to finish their vodka Red Bulls. It's no wonder there's so much drink-driving in this country - only the super-rich can actually afford to spend an evening in a bar knocking back soft drinks. Like the other J2Os this is a lovely swig, not quite up to the magnificent orange-and-cranberry but not far behind. Your correspondent recommends it highly to all Snackspot viewers in the 40% tax bracket.
..."Stuart" returns with news of what Britvic can achieve when
they allow a bit more sugar into the mix - while The Grocer magazine reports that the company are also bringing out a new Orange and Grape flavour of premium adult soft drink "Ame", and testing a "reformulated Diet Pepsi" (which Britvic distribute here) in the UK. In other transatlantic terror, they additionally allege that Pepsi have registered a UK trademark for Pepsi Max Spice ("likely to be a sugar-free version of Pepsi Holiday Spice") - plus it should have been available for a week by now, but we haven't heard anything yet about the New Zealand debut of Coca-Cola (and Diet Coke) with Raspberry.

Comment: I think the success of drinks like this is because most people don't know you can buy a soda and lime or soda and blackcurrent in a pub for less than 50p.

Comment: Soda's pretty horrible, though. And if you drink it all night, you'll have a mouth like a camel's armpit by the end.

Comment: IVE TRIED THIS,(NOT REALLY AN HONEST SPOTTING, AS I BOUGHT SOME FROM EBAY)It smelled stongly of raspberry, and tastes alittle strange at first, but the flavour grows on you, and eventually by about half way through the bottle, i really quite liked it.Not to sure if it will catch on, out of New Zealand, but perhaps well get to see it as a limited edition , not unlike the full fat lemon coke we now have here in the U.K.Definately worth trying, but i still prefer cherry the most!

Comment: This is nice but,
a) you don't get enough of it in the small bottles.
b) It's overpriced
c) I never can find a bottle opener so end up using a key, and knackering the key
