Confirmed sighting: Burton's Jammie Dodgers Vanilla Thriller/ Jammin' with Vimto
Posted: 19:37 Sat 02-Jul-2005. Price: 69p, buy one get one free. Location: Morrisons, Leeds. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Phillerena" reports: I've always hated Jammie Dogers - nasty cheap-tasting biscuits with barely any filling. But anyway decided to give these a go as they seemed a bit of a novelty. The Vimto-flavoured ones stay true to their name and really do taste of Vimto and these are the best of the 2 flavours. Actually quite pleasant. Only thing letting them down is the nasty bland tatsing shortcake. The vanilla ones don't taste much different from regular ones, it's a heart shape, one half vanilla the other jam. Tasted bland. My advice: avoid both. They're a waste of money and are cheap and nasty.
...In other Vimto-related innovation: a recent report in The Grocer magazine that Vimto Tongue Ticklers are a new, fizzy sweet from the makers of Chewits reminds me that we never did track down a pic for the Vimto Chewy Bonbons which "Stuart Campbell" paid 99p for a 200g bag of in Asda, Longwell Green, exclaiming in triumph: These have been on the "awaiting sightings" list so long I thought someone had imagined them, but here they are. A classic-style bonbon in very 70s-retro packaging, each sweet is a giant lump the size of a gobstopper, with a crispy shell and a hard chewy toffee inside. They aren't quite as fruity as Vimto chew bars, and combined with the daunting size and consistency, it's pretty hard to imagine someone ever finishing a whole bag. Excellent non-lethal (probably) catapult ammunition, though.

Comment: The Vanilla Thriller ones have been in my local independent supermarket for some time. And I can recall seeing plentiful bags of vimto bon bons in Farm Foods in Glasgow.
