Confirmed sighting: Britvic Limited Edition Mango Tango
Posted: 21:44 Tue 02-Aug-2005. Price: 89p/ 500ml (but "buy one get another Britvic/ Pepsi bottle free"). Location: Woolworths, Swiss Cottage, London. Nutritional unusualness: Contains "Glucose-fructose syrup" and "Sweeteners (aspartame, saccharin)" - no nutritional information provided.
Snackspot
reports: It's been a while since we've had a proper new Tango (the watery Tango Clear doesn't count), though I'm not convinced this is all that different to the previous Fruit Fling and the excellently grapefruit-flavoured "Tropical" variety (assuming you can still get it). It tastes, as far as I recall, a bit like the 1980s "Quatro" drink (but without the hints of passionfruit) - the packaging maintains "The Mythological Mango is known as the Love Fruit. Mango Tango's fruity refreshment is here to spread a little love", though not, it appears, backed up with any hard facts about how much sugar is in it - you can just about taste the artificial sweetener (especially if it's not very cold), but not as much as you can with, say, Lilt nowadays.
...The "New Best Ever Taste" Pepsi Diet I picked up at the same time was a bit of a disappointment, but - moving over to the Coca-Cola product lines - Woolies also had the "Orange with a squeeze of Passion Fruit" version of "thirst-busting blend of real fruit juice and water" Minute Maid Froot Refresh (2 330ml bottles for £1), while a food market down the road was charging 49p for 250ml bottles of
creamy-tasting Saudi Arabian Fanta Strawberry.
