Confirmed sighting: Gourmet Pringles
Posted: 12:48 Wed 24-May-2006. Price: 55p/ 45g . Location: Sainsbury's, Plymouth. Nutritional unusualness: approx 13g of fat per 45g pack.
"Magnetic Ham Sandwich" reports: If you're too posh to eat regular Pringles, here's a new product that's right up your alley. Gourmet Pringles have hit the shops - an "exquisite range of speciality snacks" according to their packaging. I've only seen them so far in the small 45g mini-tins at 55p each, and in three less-than-exciting gourmet flavours. The best is Flame Grilled Steak and Caramelized Onion (the "z" is intentional), which had a nice strong meaty flavour. Then there's Spicy Thai and Chilli and Lemongrass which is OK, but tastes just the same as the Spicy Thai flavour from the Pringles Aromas range. Lastly I don't know why they bothered with the Gourmet Sea Salt and Black Pepper flavour as there's nothing "gourmet" about salt and pepper, and the flavour is already available in the Pringles Dippers range. Maybe they're just testing the market with these initial flavours and we'll get the more upmarket ones like Salmon or Lobster at a later date.
...Another top Pringles-spot from "Magnetic Ham Sandwich" - no wonder United Biscuits are believed to be revamping their Phileas Fogg brand, to include Spikin' Lime, and Chili con Queso flavour tortilla chips, Teriyaki crackers, plus what The Grocer magazine describes as a "premium bread snacks range".

Comment: Surely if you're going to eat fried potato sweepings, it doesn't matter how posh they are?

Comment: I bought two tubes of pringles the other day and after eating them decided I'm finally finished with them, I'm not going to buy Pringles again
1. Lets face it, you've never bought them absent of those 2 for £2 or 3 for £3 deals offered everywhere.
2. You know you're fed-up with the boring flavours available.
3. Eat the first half of the tube, and you're fine, Eat the whole tube, and you always feel sick afterwards.
4. Everytime I've ever eaten them, I've gotten a painfully sore "top of my mouth" as they are a stupid shape.
5.One thing I will say is that, Pringles Fiery Salsa is another story, It's a really good salsa compared to other salsas on sale, It's a shame they can't replicate that quality in the crisps.
6. Flame Grilled Steak and Caramelized Onion, "Caramelized Onion" are you kiddin' me? another example of trying to make something appear all sophisticated as seen with "mozzarella and whatever" crisps everywhere around britain.
"Gourmet Sea Salt and Black Pepper" This is getting rediculous now, Salt and pepper is gourmet in their book?

Comment: The Steak are nice if you like meat - don't know why they bothered with the other two flavours though as they're just repeats of already available Pringles flavours. There are loads of better flavours of Pringles on sale elsewhere in the world they could have used.

Comment: theres another flavour that i found in sainsbury's, tiger prawn and something else. i cant remember the rest and they arent even on the pringles website - how lame?! i agree though, pringles pretty much suck, horrible texture and crunch, theres no work in it like kettle chips!

Comment: Have tried the gormet flavours and extremely dissapointed. They just all taste bland. What's happened to Pringles lately? For a start over the best few years they've dropped the Pizza & Curry flavours - which were gorgeous, and now it seem Hot & Spicy have gone too! Doubt I'll be buying a tube again.
Why can't they launch the gorgeous Ranch flavour that's available elsewhere and ditch the vile Paprika range?

Comment: I'm hooked... special crisps from Pringles were a big hit at my DVD + Wine Party. We tried all four of the 120g size cans that I bought from Tesco... voting was:
1. Thai - scrummy and irresistable 2. Salt and black pepper - binging goes posh without the Becks 4. Steak and Caramelized Onion - we have never tasted such a rich meat crisp as this... wonderful before food and with red wine, but not my choice after! 5. Prawn and Garlic - premium things often have subtleties (best things come in small things) and this is the opposite of the in your face nouvau riche Steak. It's reserved and classy, lovely undertones and great taste.
Purple is my fav colour this year... and love love love the magazine ads too...

Comment: Okay all you potato chip haters - the gourmet pringles are amazing - I was in egypt in Feb and refused to pay the $8 for a small can of these babies - but someone else in my group bought a couple and shared and I have to tell you - i was amazed!! It was worth the $8 - I wish I'd brought some home - I NEVER eat potato chips and figured these were in america - but they aren't :( I had the thai chicken and the were to die for! Well not really to die....but you know what I mean!!!
