Confirmed sighting: Chewits Truly Juicy
Posted: 21:13 Fri 16-Jan-2009. Price: £1. Location: Poundland, East Kilbride, Scotland. Nutritional unusualness: 56kcal per mini bag.
Zeddy reports: I was feelin' kinda depressed as Woolworths had just shut for the last time and I wouldn't be able to buy my sweets for 3 times the price I could get them elsewhere. I went into Poundland on a whim (whims aren't cheap and are pretty bulky so I didn't stay long) - whilst there what did I spot? Chewits Truly Juicy, 8 mini bag pack. It states that they are soft gums made with 100% passion. No fruit mind, just passion. The actual flavours in the pack are "Boris Berry", "Rose Raspberry", "Sarah Strawberry" and "Charlie Cherry". I couldn't say I noticed a discernible difference in each colour's flavour but they were pretty chewy in that good old Starmix type way (if you have eaten a 1kg tub of Starmix in one go you will know what jaw ache is).
Anyhoo, these are ok without being outstanding. No wonder Poundland has a job lot of them.
...And presumably why I haven't seen any sign of them since they were originally announced last May. In other post-Christmas mastication: I found this 4-pack of "Berry Tronic" Wrigley's Extra Fusion in the 99p shop on Camden High Street, though I'm not sure if I'll go back for the similarly limited-edition Electric Fruits variety - in my opinion, their Orange-Mango and Strawberry-Peach flavours were no replacement for the big spherical containers of Strawberry and Lime Trident Splash, though Wrigley's are now experimenting with Extra Ice Mints in tins.

Comment: These are your typical Pound Land fodder - poorly merchandised from the get go and un-shift-able in any shop.
The reason why they are so poor is that they are actually inferior to many of the 'penny chews' that can be picked up for little more than a penny each.
Having read yesterday that the whole Chewits brand is to have a make over it is clear that they realise their poor position at the moment. The relaunch of the classic Ice Cream flavour Chewits will be a welcome move and a revamped dragon will be used in the adverts from now on.

Comment: I seen them in Wilkinsons, i flicked them to makesure they where tin and not something that resembled a tin from viewing but you are later let down to find out its some kind of reinforced plastic or paper.
