Confirmed sighting: Kraft Oreo Chocolate Creme
Posted: 17:48 Sun 06-Sep-2009. Price: 60p on offer. Location: Asda, Rugby. Nutritional unusualness: Fewer ingredients than absolutely anything by McVitie's.
"Nick T" reports: There aren't many things left about Britain to leave a lump in the throat any more but, as anybody who has tasted Lu, Bahlsen, or the appalling BN will attest, we still lead the world in biscuits. So many foreign biscuits remind me of Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen. Bogus, slightly sinister, and just plain... wrong somehow.

And yet here to spoil the jolly post-colonial stereotype kicking comes Oreo Chocolate Creme. Trust the Americans (via Kraft's new bikkie factory in Barcelona) to top our knack of packing in more compacted sugar, refined fat and E numbers than anybody else. I can't say the 'creme' is particularly chocolatey but the biscuit part has that deep intense yumminess typical of Oreos. Is it my failing memory or do these taste how dearly-departed Gypsy Creams used to? I dunno, but they're delicious anyway. Point of order for the American manufacturers though: not all marketing translates across all markets and you don't need a glass of milk to enjoy them. An invigorating cup of tea will do just fine, thank you.

...A slightly shorter-than-usual sighting today from "Nick T" - while, in other chocolate overloads: Cadbury are following up their Brunch Munch "Mini oat and apricot baked biscuits" and "handbag-shaped" boxes of Koko chocolates with the "individually wrapped chocolate brownies or chocolate flapjacks" of Cadbury Mini Bakes; plus, this year's Halloween Jaffa Cake flavour has been announced to be Lemon and Slime.
